The Last

It’s midnight and ghetto sharks swim through the smog and depravity
Suspended lenses overhead on invisible anti-gravity
Through a sea of synthetic sounds and slippery skin
The mechanical policeman scans the horizon once again
I move similar these days through forgotten alleys
And the speedways deserted
in the crowd a silent voyeur
Secretly scoping the frantic masses
Most with no employers
As thousands madly dance between stress and paranoia
Flirting with heart attacks
I recorded on artifacts once called paper
An ancient trade that can’t relate to my labors
Now a strange new music slides between the sky scrapers
Mass market produced fodder that fuels the blood thirsty urge for more
A robot opens your door
Mental sex, radiant whores
A material generation lies teetering on the brink
Cybernetic adrenalin in your drink
A populous lost in the duct work of inoperable opulence
In my head space I’m a Brazilian battling rolls of red tape
No escape so I escape into the mind
I am the last.

So I stay doing battle in this city without shadows
With its prosthetic suns and souls on autotune
Tuning in lock step to whatever they’re told to consume
Observe the android dancers under the full moon
The neons slowly fade out
Like memories a metaphor for how listeners forgot us
Last MCs who knew their voices could do more than sell products
I am the last who clung to the lost toil of locution
Like farmers who clung to the soil in the past
Got what’s left of us on the precipice of pessimism
Planting seeds of speech like religious leaflets
Littering the streets
Maybe like plants we can grow back from the cracks in the concrete
Flowering flashbacks of past times
Poets spitting a spectrum of topics
Vivid talk that turned 3D in your optics
Thoughts delivered at the speed of light
They sold skill
Now souls killed
Gobbled up by greed and gold grills
Tried to tell a kid on the corner
Behold this is golden son
He said I was too old and he pointed his golden gun
He couldn’t shoot as quick as I spit
So I sliced him like a shogun and started my Logan’s Run
I’m the last one.
